Scammers

If a lao wai walks down Nanjing East Rd, he or she will usually be stopped by someone. There are many things the person will say.

"Do you want to have coffee?"

"We have an art gallery. Do you want to come and look?"

"Watch? Bags? Dvds?"

"I am wanting practice my English. We go be friends, have lunch. Ok, we go now."

Some other offers are a little more... risque...

I live very close to Nanjing East Rd, and go past every day. I am always disappointed to see people trying to stop lao wais and get their money.

It always depresses me that so many people are out there trying to scam other people.

I always find, though, if I wear my shorts, thongs (flip-flops) and a grubby T-shirt, no one seems to bother me... I wonder why...
